MiraDRY launches in New Zealand
Dr Kevin McKerrow, specialist dermatologist and director of the Skin Specialist Centre, today announced that the miraDry® system for the treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis, commonly known as excessive underarm sweat, is now available in New Zealand.
The Skin Specialist Centre is the first in Australasia to offer the FDA-approved miraDry® technology.
The miraDry® procedure provides a safe and lasting solution for this debilitating condition. The miraDry® system delivers energy non-invasively to the area under the arm where the sweat glands reside, which creates localised heat to destroy and eliminate the glands. Since sweat glands do not regenerate, results are lasting.
“There is compelling safety and efficacy data from multiple clinical studies that support the miraDry® treatment to address excessive underarm sweat”, said Dr Kevin McKerrow. “Recent studies show 90% efficacy and 90% patient satisfaction”.
“We are pleased to let many silent sufferers of excessive underarm sweat know there is a non-invasive treatment option available to them”, said Dr Kevin McKerrow. “One out of five people have an issue with underarm sweat and the miraDry® procedure offers lasting results and can be life-changing. The miraDry® provides a safe and non-invasive treatment option for people to take back control of their lives without letting sweat interfere with their daily activities.” Primary axillary hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which more underarm sweat is produced than is needed to cool the body.
People worldwide suffer from excessive underarm sweat and many suffer silently – they are shamed, frustrated and embarrassed because excessive underarm sweat can interfere with many aspects of everyday life.
Each miraDry® procedure takes approximately one hour in the doctor’s office. The full treatment range requires two procedures spaced three months apart to maximise results. The procedure is safe and the effect can be seen almost immediately. Since the procedure is non-invasive, there is little to no downtime, so patients can go about their normal routine activities after treatment.
The lasting result miraDry® provides, coupled with minimal downtime, provides a significant departure from previously available alternatives, which have required botulinum toxin or surgical excision.
The miraDry® procedure is available at the Skin Specialist Centre, Remuera, Auckland.
