Passengers to Sleep and Sail On New Bluebridge Service

Media release

Passengers to Sleep and Sail On New Bluebridge Service

Passengers crossing the Cook Strait on the Bluebridge Ferry at night can now arrive fully refreshed thanks to the launch of its Sleeper Service this month.

The new service, offered onboard the ferry company’s 2.30am Straitsman sailing from Wellington to Picton, comes complete with an early check in at 11pm, boarding prior to midnight, private cabin with ensuite and wake-up call. Supper and a special express breakfast menu are also available.

Bluebridge, run by New Zealand owned Strait Shipping, which already offers customers free on-board movies, kids’ play areas and free Wi-Fi, has launched the new service to offer passengers wishing to sail at night, the chance to get some rest in a comfortable private cabin.

Bluebridge general manager Peter Ellison says the Sleeper Service is a logical extension to the company’s three return daylight sailings each day and allows passengers to save time and money by travelling overnight and avoiding accommodation costs.

“Passengers can be onboard and in their cabin by midnight, allowing them six hours to sleep, shower and eat before they arrive in Picton at 6am.”

“Whether our passengers are travelling for work, or about to start a holiday, this service means they’ll disembark in Picton ready for the day ahead. It’s also a great ‘head start’ for those travelling further south, getting them on the road early but well rested,” Mr Ellison says.

Onboard cabins are priced from an additional $30 for a single through to $60 for a family room with twin bunks.
Customers wanting to book the Sleeper Service can do so online at www.bluebridge.co.nz or through an i-SITE or travel agent by booking a private cabin on a 2.30am sailing.
