Geyser shines again with recognition at the Property Council Awards

It’s celebration time again for the architects, owners and tenants of Auckland’s first 6-Green Star design rated building – Geyser. The landmark office and retail space, built in September last year, has won Best in Category in the Resene Green Building Property category and a merit award in the Hays Commercial Office Property Category at the Property Council New Zealand Rider Levett Bucknall Property Industry Awards 2013.

The awards, which recognise New Zealand’s best commercial property, were held at the Viaduct Events Centre in Auckland last night.

Designed by Pattersons and owned by Samson Corporation, Parnell’s Geyser was up against a host of stand-out properties from throughout New Zealand including AECOM House and Quad5.

“It’s an amazing achievement and great recognition for the team involved,” says Marco Creemers, General Manager of Samson Corporation.

Geyser uses state-of-the-art eco-technology to enable the building to heat itself by trapping warm air between its walls in the winter, while in summer the entire outer skin opens electronically for full ventilation. 25% of the car parking spaces in the automated car park stacking system are for small cars and the building recycled 70% of its waste during the construction process.

Geyser also has its own rainwater harvesting system to store and supply water to low flush toilets and irrigation systems, and low flow sanitary fixtures are used throughout. The building aims to use 27% less energy and half the amount of artificial lighting and water.

“It’s a delight to be working in a building that is looking after our, and our planet’s health. Knowing our company has a lighter impact on the environment we live in is a satisfying feeling,” says tenant Andy Schick, Market Manager for The Network for Learning.

These accolades come following Geyser’s two wins at the New Zealand Institute of Architecture Awards last month. Geyser is a three-storey commercial space, with 24 offices and six retail spots. It is currently 80% tenanted. www.forlease.co.nz/geyser

New Zealand's most prestigious property industry awards have been running for more than 15 years, and celebrate excellence in commercial property development. The awards attract submissions from the country's top commercial property developments. Rider Levett Bucknall has been principal sponsor for 15 years.
