NZ built super yacht tenders win 2013 ShowBoats Design Award
NZ built super yacht tenders win 2013 ShowBoats
Design Award.
In a prize giving
ceremony at the Monaco Opera House on June 21, and in front
of an international audience of superyacht owners, designers
and industry leaders, the super yacht tenders designed by
Fontaine Design Group, of Rhode Island, USA, and built in
New Zealand by Lloyd Stevenson
Boatbuilders, received the
Tender Design Award.
Other NZ built boats recognised at the awards were Loretta Anne, built by Alloy Yachts and designed by Dubois Naval Architects which received the Exterior Design and Styling Award – Semi-Displacement Motor Yachts, and Quintessential, built by Yachting Developments with interior design by Redman Whiteley Dixon/ Warwick Yacht Design, which received the interior layout award for sailing yachts.
Lloyd Stevenson has been steadily building a reputation for crafting world class super yacht tenders, and these are the second pair of Fontaine F620 tenders the company has built, adding to an impressive portfolio which includes tenders for Kokomo in 2009, Vertigo in 2011 (which was a finalist in the 2012 ShowBoats Design Awards) and Garcon in 2012 (also a finalist this year).
Captain Philip Shirley, the owners
representative for M/Y Loretta Anne had this to say about
the tenders, “The two tenders that Lloyd Stevenson
Boatbuilders have built for the M/Y Loretta Anne are by far
the best designed and constructed of any tender I have dealt
with in my 23 years of professional yachting. They are true
super yacht quality tenders.”
The pair
of 6.2 metre vessels powered by Volvo D3 220hp engines with
stern legs have a top speed of 43 knots.
The boats have impressive sea keeping qualities, with the heavily flared hull coupled with the folding bow dodger creating an extremely dry and comfortable ride. The Volvo power assisted steering system provides fingertip control, while the stern leg trim control further enhances the rough water handling capabilities.
These boats are stowed through side doors in the motherships topsides, and the three point lift system with removable pad eyes is designed to make this procedure very simple.
One boat operates as a Sport Tender, with rod racks, ski pole and non-skid painted soles, while the other has teak decks and is used in a Limousine capacity.
The tenders are CE certified to carry up to 9 passengers and crew with their associated gear, the substantial foam fender maximises the interior space available with an abundance of comfortable seating and shelter from the elements.
Electronics include a Lowrance HDS7 plotter/sounder, Furuno AIS, Icom VHF and Fusion stereo system.
