Nyet Cunliffe - Check Your Facts First
Sealord is disappointed Labour Fisheries Spokesperson has not apologised or retracted false statements made yesterday about the company.
David Cunliffe lambasted Sealord for recruitment advertisements that had absolutely nothing to do with the company.
“We are disappointed that Mr Cunliffe has neither apologised publically or made attempts to let media know his initial statements were incorrect,” said CEO Graham Stuart.
“There are plenty of people wanting to take cheap shots at the fishing industry and someone with Mr Cunliffe’s experience should know by now you can’t believe everything you read in the press. He could easily have checked with us before putting our name wrongly into the public domain on a matter like this.” While Mr Cunliffe has corrected statements on his blog and twitter feed, no apology or retraction has been made.
“Sealord employs over 400 New Zealanders on its fishing fleet and is a leading exporter of New Zealand seafood. Our reputation is important in these export markets as well as domestically so it is a real let down when a leading public figure wrongly uses our brand as a political football,” said Stuart Sealord is constantly looking for New Zealand crew – no foreign languages required - and invites anyone interested in joining Sealord to apply via our website.
