Australians are looking for ways to make their travel dollar stretch further, according to travel information, comparison and deals website Cheapflights.com.au.

Cheapflights travel expert Kara Segedin said that their site has seen increased levels of enquiries as winter arrived in Australia and as people expected their tax returns.

“A holiday is a great way to spend your annual tax return and there’s many ways to save money on travel, especially if you are flexible and do your research,” said Kara.

Cheapflights.com.au compares flights and accommodation deals from more than 300 travel partners to offer consumers the best value travel options without the burden of any additional booking fees or charges.

Kara says travellers can save on airfares by choosing to travel mid week. She says timing is also important when considering your accommodation.

“Many resort destinations have cheaper room rates mid-week while you’ll find that the best deals for accommodation in major cities are found on the weekends when the business travellers are gone,” said Kara.

She also suggests that people use public transport when visiting a major city. “Not only is it a cheap way of getting around, you’ll get more of a feel of the local’s way of life.”

Kara recommends visiting the local Chamber of Commerce in cities to secure welcome packs including coupons for restaurants, tours and activities.

“There’s some great ways to get the best out of a holiday destination without spending a fortune,” she said.
