Independent report finds Vodafone has fastest ADSL broadband network
Independent research from Epitiro, a global provider of network performance intelligence, reveals today that Vodafone has the fastest ADSL broadband network in New Zealand.
The Fixed Line Broadband (ADSL) Performance Report analysed download and upload speeds and network latency amongst the country’s top four Internet Service Providers (ISPs) – Orcon, Slingshot, Telecom and Vodafone.
Epitiro collected data between April and June 2013.
The independent report found that the Vodafone network, which includes a large number of unbundled exchanges as well as fibre from Whangarei to Invercargill, has the best average results:
• The fastest average download speed of 10.9
Mbps, versus the average for all other ISPs at 10.04
Mbps
• The fastest average upload speed of 0.9 Mbps,
versus an ISP average of 0.85 Mbps
• The lowest average
network latency, critical for real-time applications like
gaming, of 132 milliseconds vs an average of 138
milliseconds
• The fastest average web page downloads
at 2.26 Mbps vs 2.02 Mbps
Vodafone Technology Director Sandra Pickering says the Epitiro report findings are another example of the strength of the Vodafone SuperNet™.
“We have been building and investing in our network for the past 15 years in New Zealand and this report recognises the experience that our broadband customers enjoy every day.
“Further, last week we upgraded Vodafone customers with 100 Mbps ultra fast broadband in Wellington, Christchurch and Kapiti – giving them access to speeds of up to 130 Mbps.
“The Vodafone SuperNet™ provides leadership in mobile and fixed communications. It’s the only way you can get telephone, internet, mobile and TV from a single provider, and allows more of us Kiwis to stay connected wherever we are.”
Vodafone SuperNet™ allows Kiwis to stay connected, to create, enjoy and share the things they love, more than ever before. In addition to having the fastest ADLS broadband network as recognised by Epitiro, SuperNet™:
• Offers the fastest ultra fast broadband to over 191,000 homes via Vodafone’s own high speed cable network. TrueNet’s June Broadband Report states that “TrueNet webpage download times show Vodafone Cable as the quickest”.
• Is enabling rural communities to connect by offering rural broadband to over 110,000 homes and businesses
• Brings Kiwis in Wellington, Kapiti and Christchurch the best range of content from around the world with the widest range of TV channels delivered over cable broadband
• Gives Kiwis the best mobile internet experience, enabling them to make the most of their smartphones and tablets on New Zealand’s only super-fast 4G mobile network – available now in parts of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Wanaka, Lake Brunner and Taupo, and rolling out to more centres
• Offers the peace of mind that you will always be best connected on the only mobile network in New Zealand with the resilience of 2G, 3G and 4G layering. If one network is affected, your device seamlessly transitions to the next fastest available network
• Is trusted by some of NZ’s biggest banks, universities and websites, and connects over 50% of the country’s businesses
• Keeps more Kiwis connected in more places by offering seamless roaming to over 195 different places across the globe
Scope of testing
A detailed description of
the testing methodology is presented in the Technical
Testing Methodology section at the end of the
Report.
