Entré serves up hundreds of possibilities for New Zealand’s App Industry
New Zealand’s up and coming App industry has inspired over 300 entries in entré’s latest entrepreneurial endeavour at the University of Canterbury.
Over the past four weeks students have been encouraged to enter a competition aimed at producing exciting and unique mobile applications-the winner will receive the latest in iphone and ipad technology, $200 and development of their idea.
A Smudge Apps representative along with Powerhouse’s Rachael Wright and Adam Hutchison will enter deliberation on Tuesday 13th August followed by the announcement in late September.
CEO of entré Michelle Panzer is overwhelmed by the 302 entries, almost double that of last year.
“It is fantastic to have this must interest in sharing innovative ideas. I believe it can be put down to the diverse range of tools entré has offered to students in 2013”.
The student body has been privy to weekly powerHouse workshops and seminars from leading New Zealand entrepreneur’s including Melanie Morris, founder of Training & Beyond Ltd, Xero gold partner & NZBAI President. The finalists for entré’s supreme $75,000 competition have also received private mentoring.
Entré will host an awards evening on the 26th September to recognise the successes of the App Challenge and the penultimate $75,000 idea.
About
entré
Entré is a not-for-profit, student-run
company at the University of Canterbury. Started by students
8 years ago, entré’s momentum has grown, with over 5%* of
the student population now on board with the new year (880
students and growing).
Entré’s goal is to encourage and cultivate the entrepreneurial spirit among university students. Through the competitions and business seminars, entré aims to inspire students to become more innovative and creative in whatever background or discipline they are in.
Entré runs free competitions and events for students throughout the year to realise this goal. The different competitions suit all levels of participation. Some are as simple as writing a business idea on a napkin while others involve the development of an in-depth business plan. The prizes for the competitions include leading products cash prizes, business mentoring and industry services.
