Food and Grocery Council welcomes Bell Tea purchase

FGC welcomes Bell Tea purchase

The NZ Food & Grocery Council welcomes the news of the sale of Bell Tea and Coffee Company and is delighted it will remain in local hands.

Founded in 1898, Bell Tea is a New Zealand company that most Kiwis have grown up with.

After 50 years of ownership by Foodstuffs as a standalone business, the company has been sold to Wellington investor Pencarrow Private Equity.

FGC Chief Executive Katherine Rich said it was great to see Bell Tea remaining wholly owned in New Zealand.

“Our member companies have all sorts of different ownership structures, but in this instance, with Bell Tea’s important part in New Zealand’s history and the fact that generations of Kiwis have grown up with it, it’s great to see this iconic company remain in Kiwi hands.”
