Redvespa Turns Ten as BA Profession Revs Up
Last night, Wellington-born business analysis consultancy Redvespa celebrated its 10th birthday and the growth of the BA industry, in hell-raising style at the capital’s PREFAB Eatery.
The company, which provides services across the private and public sector, has grown significantly since co-founders Richard and Sarah Gibson set it up in 2003. Celebrating alongside them last night were 120 clients, staff, alumni and suppliers who helped the company reach its impressive milestone.
“I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since Richard and I sat down at the kitchen table and talked about setting up our own consultancy,” says Redvespa CEO Sarah Gibson.
“Despite being in growth phase during the GFC, we have built a fun, efficient and successful business that we are very proud of.”
Now with over fifty staff, offices in Auckland and Wellington, strong international links and trusted client relationships, Redvespa has found its engine power and in doing so has played a pivotal role in developing the business analysis industry in New Zealand.
“We really value a close-knit workplace, we genuinely care for our clients, and we invest in our community. These three factors have been the key to our success so far,” says Sarah.
In 2006, Redvespa co-founded the New Zealand chapter of the International Institute of Business Analysis– the first outside North America –after noticing a gap in the support structure around the business analysis (BA) profession in New Zealand. Redvespa continues to sponsor the New Zealand Chapter and Sarah Gibson is a member of the international board.
“We bring key international speakers in to present to the industry, we host a regular forum for BA Managers, and we offer a host of BA capability services including training and assessment resources. It is important to us that BAs have access to the best practice tools and information they need,” says Sarah.
With a long-serving, loyal staff and an award cabinet that is filling up, Redvespa is also carving a name for itself as a great place to work.
They’ve received accolades including the Recruit IT Hi-Tech Employer of Choice Award 2011, the JRA Best Small Workplace 20-49 employees award 2010 and a place on the Deloitte Fast500 Asia Pacific list in 2009.
Having recently been displaced from their Wellington offices following earthquake damage, the Redvespa team has shown its resilience, positivity and commitment to delivery – settling in temporary offices down the road with no downtime for clients.
“Resilience is a natural attribute of a BA consultant,” says Sarah. “We are all OK with change, so we are getting on with it and treating it as an adventure.”
With Richard having taken half a step back while Sarah remains at the helm, the duo look ahead to the next ten years with a keen focus on deepening the company’s roots in the New Zealand business analysis industry and establishing an iconic legacy brand.
“Despite global financial unrest in recent times, business analysts have been in demand,” says Sarah.
“The profession is not a back office role like it was ten years ago. It requires a great deal of collaboration, creativity and determination to uncover efficiencies and best practice for business.”
“BAs are becoming valued assets to Kiwi business and new specialisations are emerging. It is an exciting time to be a BA and we will do all we can to help the profession realise its potential.”
