Commitment to new trans Pacific Cable good but more expected
The government's backing of a second international telecommunications cable is forward looking and welcome, the Employers and Manufacturers Association says.
"The $15 million being put up, and the offer to become an anchor customer demonstrates a welcome commitment by the Government," said Kim Campbell, EMA's chief executive.
"But the Government could do more by, for example, underwriting loans for the project.
"Nevertheless business will be pleased to see the government's positive approach to establishing a second cable, to increase our international capacity and build competitiveness."
