More robust and dynamic Standards system anticipated
The move to make Standards more effective as announced by Minister Craig Foss (15/10/2013) is pleasing because a robust and independent Standards system is vital core business for industry, says Kim Campbell, chief executive for the Employers and Manufacturers Association.
"We look forward to a revitalised Standards development process becoming a more dynamic and integral part of our economy," Mr Campbell said.
"The core things we emphasised have been retained. These are:
* The Standards development and approvals process will remain independent, and
* The expertise of the present Standards development team will be retained, albeit within the structure of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
"One question still outstanding is over the level of funding that Standards will be allocated.
"Business will be looking for a considerable lift in government's commitment to achieving this."
