Caros Auckland’s best wine shop 10 years running
Auckland, 21 November 2013 – Caros
Wine Merchants has won Metro Magazine’s Best in Auckland
2013 wine shop category for the tenth year in a
row.
Richard and John Caro put the decade of consistency down to personal service.
“A set of incredibly loyal customers who have been with us a long time are the lynchpin of our business,” Richard says. “They are, quite rightly, very fussy about what they drink and like that we’re always in the shop to offer advice. They like trying new products, especially new imports such as aged Riojas and other great products from small producers, and we are always looking for the best deals for them. It helps that we are totally focused on wine and so aren’t distracted by other categories.”
“Over the last ten years we’ve seen plenty of changes,” says John Caro. “Thanks to the strong dollar there’s been a substantial increase in wine imported from Europe, of wonderful quality and good value. New Zealand’s wine drinkers are more open to new flavours and varieties and they are just savvier than they were ten years ago, better educated and aware of price.”
