Belly Beyond Lays Down the Gauntlet to Online Retailers

Award-winning online baby shop Belly Beyond is laying down the gauntlet to New Zealand retail businesses, telling them to “stop paddling in the shallows” and to fully embrace the world’s biggest online shopping day.

Monday 2 December 2013 sees the return of Cyber Monday, and what will be the world’s biggest ever online shopping occasion.  Across the USA, UK, Europe and Canada, Monday signifies the official start of the holiday shopping season and for 3 years Louisa Currie and Heidi Riley, the directors of Belly Beyond, have championed that New Zealand should be no different.

“A number of New Zealand retailers, including us, participated in a local online event last week called “Click Monday” but some consumers were disappointed with the offers available from the larger retailers,” said Belly Beyond director Louisa Currie. “We are encouraging New Zealand traders to stop splashing in a small local paddling pool and to join us by diving into Cyber Monday, helping to make 2 December a hugely successful online trading day!, Currie added.”

Cyber Monday debuted online in November 2005 and its initial success has seen it become a significant event on the global cyber calendar.  Major online traders worldwide offer huge discounts for savvy online shoppers and Belly Beyond - New Zealand’s award winning online shop for all things maternity and baby, is proud to be amongst them.

Currie’s challenge is based on three year’s successful Cyber Monday retailing experience since Belly Beyond pioneered Cyber Monday in New Zealand in 2010.

“From our perspective, Belly Beyond received a huge amount of local and international traffic from Cyber Monday and we subsequently traded more than a month’s worth of business in just three days,” said Currie.

In 2012 Cyber Monday cracked $1.5 billion in global online shopping sales. In 2013 Cyber Monday is likely to push the boundaries once again, with Forbes magazine predicting 13 percent growth on 2012 and sales of US$1.8 billion. If this landmark is reached it will be the largest online trading day in internet history.

“We’re so excited about 2 December 2013!” adds Riley.  “This year will be bigger than ever for Belly Beyond, with a wider range of products and a distribution warehouse that will be running 24 hour shifts.”
