Dairy farmers feeling the heat in Otago
Otago dairy farmers Mark and Vicky McLennan have won a brand new Honda Auto Shift Camo motorbike after entering the draw when they bought CRV Ambreed’s Estrotect heat detectors and ear tags.
The couple, who own two farms at Berwick on the Taieri Plains, have been CRV Ambreed clients for 16 years.
They are in their second year of using the pre-mating heat detection system, which is a silver business card-sized patch that sticks to the cow’s rump and changes colour once she is on heat.
Mark says wining the four-wheeler is the icing on the cake, and that they get great benefits from using the Estrotect heat detectors because of how easy they are to apply.
“And we’ve been really impressed with the reliability and accuracy of the system as well – it’s a big improvement to what we were previously using,” he said.
CRV product manager Angela Ryan said some farmers are worried the patch might come off during mounting.
“But they don’t. They stay on the cow and do the job without fuss or mess.”
CRV Ambreed is the exclusive New Zealand stockist of Estrotect heat detectors.
