The Great Eclectic Jumble Sale hits Wellington

Media Release – for immediate release

The Great Eclectic Jumble Sale hits Wellington.

Wellington’s favourite jumble sale is back and packed to the brim with vintage and retro furniture, bric-a-brac, fabric, clothing and collectables. With well over 5000 items The Great Eclectic Jumble Sale is an event not to be missed.

Event organiser Maria Henare estimates that she’ll be bringing thousands of metres of vintage fabric, over 1000 items of clothing and countless vintage handbags, over 50 vintage bone china trios, plus over 500 pieces of antique linen. Bringing over 200 boxes of antiques and collectables to Wellington from Nelson requires over 300 hours of packing time. Packing for this event began several months ago.

This year making the trip across the Cook Strait to Wellington will be a specially curated group of items that Maria saves for her ‘couture room’ at the Jumble Sale. This is where she displays her most prized finds for sale. The couture room will feature a collection of highly sought after original 1940’s woollen swimwear pieces, folk-art heads from the USA, retro furniture, original 1960’s anatomy charts, and a pair of original 1950s oriental lamps that any retro aficionado will covet.

“This is my fourth year bringing The Great Eclectic Jumble Sale across the Cook Strait.” Says Maria Henare. “I bring my favourite pieces and we have a blast. I adore the time spent here, the coffee, the creative vibe, catching up with long time clients, the vintage aficionados and other eclectic collectors. Wellington isn't called the vibrant and creative capital for no reason! We bring the Great Eclectic Jumble Sale to Wellington because Wellingtonians love vintage.”

The Great Eclectic Jumble Sale, St Anne’s Community Hall at the end of Emmett St, Newtown, Saturday 8 November , 9am-5pm and Sunday November 9, 9am-3pm.
