Consenting Overhaul Recommendations Are Good News for Christchurch
Property Council South Island supports the nationwide changes recommended for building consenting systems.
The Branch has been calling for improved consenting systems in Christchurch, especially with the critical task of progressing the city’s rebuild, for many years now.
Crown Manager Doug Martin has recommended six changes in his recent report to the Government which endeavours to see the Christchurch City Council’s consenting operations overhauled.
Branch president Jo McDonald says the following recommendations will reduce red tape and move forward much-needed development faster.
“The South Island Branch endorses the findings of the review and encourages the Council to take these recommendations on board. In particular, we think that broadening the streamlined consenting process would be a driver for development and reducing red tape and hurdles commonly faced by developers.
“Property Council would like to be part of the sector reference group to ensure that the Council gets real feedback from developers around the consenting process which will lead to a more efficient consenting system.”
