Choice of Portlink a “no-brainer” for Online Distribution

Choice of Portlink a “no-brainer” for Online Distribution

Christchurch company Online Distribution’s decision to choose Portlink Industrial Park in Woolston as the location for its new facility was a “no-brainer”, according to the company’s Business Manager, Guy Evans.

Online Distribution is a market leader in the provision of logistics and supply chain services, acting on behalf of over 200 businesses.

“Approximately two-thirds of the 3,500 shipping containers we handle each year on behalf of our clients come through Lyttelton so we really could not find a more appropriate location,” said Evans.

“It is our job to get stock where it needs to be in a timely fashion and our new facility at Portlink will enable us to do this even more efficiently and cost-effectively for our customers especially given its links to major road networks into and out of Christchurch.”

Another big attraction of Portlink for Online Distribution was the ability to cater for future growth of its business. The privately-owned company is celebrating its 25th year of operation this year and during that time has grown rapidly.

“We started out with one warehouse and a handful of staff and now today we have 11 warehouses and just under 100 staff based in Christchurch and Auckland,” said Evans.

Given the strength of the South Island economy, the enormous growth in the e-commerce sector and the fact that, according to Evans, outsourcing of logistics is becoming the norm, it seems likely that Online Distribution will need this provision for future expansion sooner rather than later.

Evans said Portlink developers Arcus Developments Ltd had been “great to deal with” and he was looking forward to the commencement of the building process.

Online Distribution’s new premises at Portlink are scheduled for completion in early 2016 and will include approximately 4,000m2 of warehouse space equipped with specific technology to maximise operational efficiency.

Evans said that the company was really excited about being located alongside existing iconic Kiwi brands such as Elastomer, Kathmandu and NZ Express Transport. Portlink is also conveniently close to Online Distribution’s other main distribution centre on Port Hills Road.
