Wednesday 22 July 2015
A new $12,000 food-packing machine will create new jobs for the team at Cargill Enterprises in South Dunedin.
The purchase of the electronic food-packing machine was made possible with a $7,000 donation from Mark Bridgmount of Beaumont and Bridgmount Optometrists.
Cargill Enterprises General Manager, Derek King said the new machine that automatically weighs food products would allow the group to seek new packing contracts and improve efficiencies.
“It seems counter intuitive, as in most cases, machinery and automation result in job losses. However, with this machine and our rating as an A+ Food Packing Facility we will be able to secure more food packing contracts, which will enable us to create more jobs.”
Currently 12 people are employed in Cargill Enterprises food packing area, they re-pack bulk food products such as sweets, herbs and spices.
