Cold snap drives demand

If you thought this winter has been a little on the chilly side, you’d be right.
During the cold snap in the first week in July, Vector’s peak load was up 74 MW on the same week the year before. 74 MW is equivalent to the maximum demand for 24,666 households.



Network summary for week ending 26 July 2015
Electricity
A contractor struck an electric cable in Onehunga during the week. Repairs were carried out by our crews, with around 30 customers affected.

A transformer in Hillcrest required urgent repairs during the week, after a car collided with it. A pole met a similar fate in Papatoetoe, and it had to be replaced by our crews. Crews made repairs to our network after car vs pole incidents in Dannemora, St Johns, Halfmoon Bay, Eden Terrace and Waitakere.

Power isolations were requested at five house/building fires during the week, in Avondale, Otahuhu (2), Titirangi and New Lynn.


Gas
There were two cases of third party damage to our network during the week, in Titirangi and New Lynn. Our service providers completed the necessary repairs.

Gas odours were reported in Auckland City, Orakei, Paerata, Te Rapa and Tauranga. These sites were assessed by our service providers, and all repairs completed.
