Fresh from Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco

Fresh from Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco

A facelift for part of the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco has been completed in time for greeting guests during summer and beyond.

The resort, located on the waterfront near Nelson airport, offers a mix of apartments and hotel rooms as well as a restaurant, function rooms, permanent marquee and pool/gym complex.

As part of the most significant refurbishment programme the property has undergone in its 10-year life, all 20 hotel rooms have been painted and received new beds, linens, toppers and comforters, changed to triple sheeting, and new in-room china. Some have also had the bedheads recovered and been re-wallpapered.

“It was important to us to maintain the traditional charm the property is known for, while ensuring the top level of comfort and quality,” said Director of Operations Sharon McGuire.

“In addition to our hotel rooms, we often have groups or individuals staying with us for a period of time in our one and two-bedroom apartments, so another priority for us was refreshing the pool complex. The bespoke gym has also received a rejuvenation including new carpet and equipment.”

Guests also now enjoy ultrafast broadband (UFB) when the property’s owners decided to guarantee business and leisure guests at the four-star property the benefits of an ultrafast internet service – making it the first accommodation provider in Nelson to offer the service.

“Offering this faster capability is particularly useful for our meeting and conference guests who need to stay connected with their business activities while out of the office,” Sharon said.

“Corporate guests meeting on-site often take only short breaks throughout the day: having a much faster broadband service makes their time at the Monaco that much more seamless and productive.”

UFB access is available for smart phones, tablets and laptop computers via both wired and wireless connections in use at the resort, utilising the latest fibre optic cables laid to the gate by Chorus and supported by extensive onsite wireless network.
“We know our leisure guests will also benefit with quicker access to online entertainment and keeping in touch with friends and family elsewhere.”
“We have a real commitment to investing in technology which will enhance our visitors’ time with us.”
