Calf & Rural Scheme sales kick-off today
The IHC Calf
& Rural Scheme, supported by PGG Wrightson, will have their
first sale of the season today in Paeroa.
IHC would
like to thank all of those involved with the Calf & Rural
Scheme. Without your support it wouldn’t be the success
that it is. Thank you to the farmers, our sponsors,
transporters, canvassers, volunteers and supporters!
IHC
would also like to thank the buyers of the calves - without
your generosity, IHC wouldn’t be able to provide the
support for people with intellectual disabilities.
The Calf & Rural Scheme contributes enormously to IHC. With the help of 5,000 generous farmers, the Scheme raises more than $1 million each year.
The IHC Calf & Rural Scheme has
been around since 1984. Norm Cashmore trialled the scheme in
Taranaki, and encouraged by the response it was rolled out
across the country and included all livestock. All Black
great and sheep and beef farmer Sir Colin Meads is the
Scheme’s patron. Colin has been involved with the IHC Calf
& Rural Scheme for more than 30 years.
What concerns
Colin now is the lack of employment opportunities for young
people with disabilities. “I can remember the thrill of
some of the people with intellectual disabilities getting
their first pay. That was theirs; they were going to bank
it.”
IHC is encouraging people to come along to the
sales which are taking place all across the country. The
