Job opportunities offered to former Dick Smith employees

The country’s biggest importer and retailer of second hand cars, 2 Cheap Cars, says it may be able to help some of the staff from closed-up electronics company Dick Smith with new jobs.

It is the last day of work of Dick Smith employees today.

2 Cheap Cars chief executive Eugene Williams says the demise of Dick Smith has coincided with major growth and expansion at his company and they are looking for good people.

“We are looking for people in a range of roles from branch managers, sales staff and administration support. We’ve always been impressed with the staff in Dick Smith’s New Zealand stores and we would love to consider them for jobs,” he says.

2 Cheap Cars has been liaising with the New Zealand liquidators of the Dick Smith business and has opened up contact channels for the staff who will be losing jobs.

The expansion at 2 Cheap Cars will see another two branches added to its network of retail outlets in the coming months. The company already has 14 retail arms across the country, selling around 1000 cars a month in total. The next 2 Cheap Cars branch to open will be in Napier.

“We are in the happy position of growing our business and expanding our operation. One of the barriers to doing this successfully can be getting the right people on board so we see this as an opportunity for ourselves as much as for the former Dick Smith employees,” says Mr Williams.
