David Jones partners with World of WearableArt

8 September 2016, Wellington NZ – Premium department store David Jones and the prestigious World of WearableArt Ltd (WOW ®) today announced their partnership for New Zealand’s largest theatrical event, taking place in Wellington next month.

The WOW® Show is the must see New Zealand performance show of the year, bringing 58,000 people from around the world to Wellington over a three-week season. The 2016 WOW® Show runs from Thursday 22 September to Sunday 9 October.

David Jones is New Zealand’s newest department store, having opened its first international store on Lambton Quay, Wellington in July.

David Jones will have naming rights for the Avant Garde section of the show in which designers are challenged to produce work of the highest calibre, pushing and evolving the boundaries of fashion, art and design. The Avant Garde section is a highlight of WOW® each year with previous entrants of note including design duo Maria Tsopanaki and Dimitri Mavinis from Erevos Aether who design for Lady Gaga, Jessy J and Black Eyed Peas.

David Jones New Zealand Regional Manager Anthea Cooper will also select the winner of the New Zealand Design Award.

To celebrate the partnership, David Jones will display an exceptional WOW® garment created by late designer Claire Prebble in one of its Lambton Quay windows from 20th September to 9nd October. This garment is part of a collection of Claire’s WOW® creations that will be exhibited around the capital in memory of the regular contributor, who was the youngest ever WOW® Supreme winner and a sought-after couture and jewellery designer.

Commenting on today’s announcement Anthea Cooper said, “As newcomers to the city we’re thrilled to be part of this unique and spectacular event, which inspires and nurtures imagination and originality in fashion, art and design. As a leading fashion business we believe it’s vital that we play a part in fostering creativity and WOW® gives designers a unique opportunity to tap into their inventiveness and push the boundaries of design without their commercial hat on. I look forward to seeing the creations from this year’s entrants.”

WOW® CEO, Gisella Carr added, “This is an exciting development and we are delighted that the team at David Jones has identified WOW® as their first Wellington partner. WOW® is a significant event in the cultural calendar and a draw card for many people who travel from all over the world for the show. The David Jones brand is one of the most recognised brands in Australasia and we are pleased to be associated with the company’s flagship New Zealand store.”
