Best of the energy sector celebrated

OMV, New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter, Rebecca Wilson of Transpower, City Rail Link, Vector, BP New Zealand, Fiona Smith of Trustpower, ChargeNet, Electric Kiwi and Richard Tweedie were the winners of the 2018 Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards, announced last night. More than 650 people from the energy sector came together and celebrated with the Minister of Energy and Resources, Hon Megan Woods.

Among the winners, ChargeNet won the inaugural Low Carbon Future Award, presented by Hon Woods. ChargeNet is encouraging electric vehicle adoption and lower carbon emissions in New Zealand by building a network of rapid chargers throughout the country. Judges were impressed with how ChargeNet is redefining the competitive landscape as electricity and transport converge.

Electric Kiwi won Energy Retailer of the Year for its positive public perception and growing its customer numbers by more than 85 per cent over the past year. Electric Kiwi scored highly across the board in the latest Consumer NZ survey of energy providers which polled customers on a range of metrics such as overall satisfaction and value for money.

Richard Tweedie, who was a Managing Director at Todd Corporation for 23 years until 2010, was honoured for his contribution to the country’s energy industry. Energy News editor Matt Freeman says Tweedie’s foresight to move the company into electricity and gas wholesaling prior to the reforms of the mid-90s was a brave move that paid off. Tweedie’s work saw the Todd Petroleum Mining business unit evolve into the Todd Energy brand.

David Morgan from Principal Sponsor Deloitte was impressed with the calibre of award winners.
