Ministers to address energy sector

Ministers for Energy and Resources and Climate Change address energy sector

The Hon Dr Megan Woods and Hon James Shaw will speak to the New Zealand energy sector next week. Since taking up their ministerial positions we have had a new upstream exploration permits ban, work start on a zero carbon bill and an electricity price review to name just a few of the high profile events. New Zealand’s energy future seems anything but stable and certain.

All of these developments and more will be debated by the over 400 delegates attending New Zealand’s annual energy sector strategic conference ‘Downstream’, held in Auckland on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (March 5-6) at the SkyCity Convention Centre.

The energy industry is coming together to discuss the biggest energy challenges and opportunities for New Zealand’s future. Topics include increased renewable electricity generation, distributed energy, solar and EVs, decarbonisation, the role of gas, energy security, pricing, and what the consequences will be for consumers large and small.

Regulators, Chief Executives and international experts will be speaking to a cross-section of the sector including large energy consumers such as Fonterra and NZ Steel. Speakers include:

Vince Hawksworth – Trustpower

Alison Andrew – Transpower

Dennis Barnes – Contact Energy

Greg Skelton – Wellington Electricity

James Stevenson Wallace – Electricity Authority

Paul Goodeve – First Gas

Judy Nicholl – Counties Power

Mike Fuge – Refining NZ

More information including the full programme may be found on the event website www.nzdownstream.co.nz .

Downstream is run as a joint venture between Freeman and Conferenz.
