Christchurch event for judges and lawyers cancelled
The New Zealand Bar Association has cancelled an event
it was holding in Christchurch this evening following
today’s mass shooting in the city.
The event to celebrate the making of new Queens Counsel was to be attended by a number of judges and lawyers.
NZ Bar Association President, Kate Davenport QC, says the appalling shootings in the city this afternoon make holding the event totally unsuitable.
“The NZ Bar Association is shocked
and deeply saddened at today’s unprecedented act of
violence for this country. Our thoughts are with the victims
and their families and for everyone who is dealing with
these such hateful and despicable incidents,” says Ms
Davenport.
