New Partnership Offers Fonterra Farmers Cheaper, Cleaner Refrigeration
In partnership with Cool Group Limited, Fonterra, Purpose Capital, and New Zealand Green Investment Finance, Cool-Safe is pleased to present farmers a sustainable and cost-effective option to cool their milk.
An important aspect is the destruction of HFC refrigerants from the legacy equipment which is being undertaken in partnership with Cool-Safe, New Zealand’s product stewardship scheme for handling the very high global warming potential gases being recovered from many of the older refrigeration systems. Its involvement ensures HFC’s are appropriately collected and destroyed using state of the art technology, eliminating the harm these synthetic refrigerants have on the environment. Richard Lauder, chair of the trust running Cool-Safe, noted “We are delighted to be involved and play a part in this scheme assisting the dairy sector in its efforts to reduce energy use and improve environmental impacts”.
Cool-Safe is the product stewardship scheme which currently collects and destroys refrigerants and other synthetic refrigerants (sometimes known as F-gases) across Aotearoa New Zealand. Cylinders containing recovered refrigerant are deposited by refrigeration professionals via an expanding collection network. The scheme is managed on behalf of the Trust for the Destruction of Synthetic Refrigerants. It is currently building a state-of-the-art destruction facility in the eastern Bay of Plenty which should be operational by 2024.
