Petdirect Joins Forces With SPCA To Support Animal Welfare Nationwide

Petdirect, New Zealand’s newest Kiwi-owned pet supply retailer, is proud to announce a new partnership with the country’s oldest animal welfare charity RNZSPCA. The two organisations have joined forces to improve the lives of pets and animals across Aotearoa.

The two organisations have teamed up to collaborate on a range of initiatives that will make a real difference, in the community, SPCA Centres and in Kiwi homes.

Petdirect’s reputation for expert advice, competitive pricing, and fast delivery, including rural areas has earned it a loyal following.

“Our values are aligned, we both want the best outcomes for companion animals in New Zealand,” says SPCA CEO Todd Westwood.

“Partnering with Petdirect is a big opportunity to expand our reach and reach more potential adopters, volunteers and fosters. By joining forces we can support pet owners, strengthen animal welfare, and continue giving vulnerable animals the chance they deserve.”

This exciting new partnership with SPCA reflects Petdirect’s continued commitment to supporting animal wellbeing and responsible pet ownership across New Zealand.

Founded in March 2020 from a garage in Auckland at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic by GrabOne founder Shane Bradley, Petdirect has rapidly grown to become a trusted household name, capturing a majority share of the country’s online pet specialty market.

With headquarters in Auckland and warehouses now operating in both Auckland and Christchurch, the company employs over 100 passionate staff, known as PetSters, dedicated to serving pet-loving communities nationwide.

What began as a digital-only retailer marked a new milestone in October 2024, opening its first physical store in Takapuna, with new locations planned in Mt Roskill (Auckland) and Tower Junction (Christchurch). Shoppers also benefit from Pet Perks, a robust loyalty programme offering Airpoints™ on all purchases and access to their popular Autodeliver subscription service.

“As a proudly New Zealand owned and operated company, it’s incredibly meaningful for us to team up with SPCA to give back to the communities that have supported our journey,” says CEO Dave Anderson.

“We’re thrilled to support SPCA and all the work they do to help over 30,000 sick, injured, neglected, abused or vulnerable animals every year and have done for the last 150 years, and we look forward to helping more animals live healthier, happier lives for the next 150 years.”

SPCA welcomes the collaboration, which will help raise awareness, generate resources, and reach more animals in need.
