Wallace Cotton Expands In Tricky Retail Climate With New Dunedin Store
At a time when many retailers are retreating from bricks-and-mortar, New Zealand lifestyle brand Wallace Cotton is bucking the trend, opening its twelfth store as it celebrates 20 years in business.
The new store, which opened this past weekend, brings Wallace Cotton’s signature collection of bed linen, homeware, and sleepwear to the lower South Island, answering years of requests from loyal customers.

“We are focused on thoughtful expansion. Data-backed decision making helps us to identify where our next stores should be, and Dunedin stood out with a strong, loyal customer base. Opening here is a natural step in our growth strategy,” says CEO Damian Dobb.
The Dunedin store opening is part of a boarder strategy to balance strong online sales with a continued investment in physical retail. Despite challenging retail conditions across the sector, Wallace Cotton remains committed to growth and to building lasting customer relationships.
“Our customers have been at the heart of Wallace Cotton since day one, with exceptional customer experiences being a cornerstone of our team’s mission. Their loyalty and trust have enabled us to grow from a small family business into a nationwide brand. Every new store is really a thank to our customers, and we’re looking forward to connecting even more closely with our Dunedin and Otago customers,” Dobb continues.
On the ground in Dunedin, the new store team is equally excited to welcome locals through the doors. National Retail Manager, Michele Stutton, says the response has already been overwhelmingly positive. “We’ve had so many people pop in to say how thrilled they are that Wallace Cotton has finally arrived in Dunedin. It’s wonderful to see familiar faces who have shopped with us online, and to now be able to offer them a beautiful space to experience our pieces in person.”
As Wallace Cotton celebrates 20 years in business this October, the Dunedin opening is a celebration of its heritage and a confident step into the future.
Wallace Cotton’s Dunedin store is now open at 197 George Street, Central Dunedin.
