Autodesk Sets Sights On AI, Sustainability

Auckland, New Zealand; 17 September – The Autodesk mission is to unlock capacity, such as housing that shelters billions, resilient infrastructure to withstand centuries, products that redefine what’s possible, and powerful content that shapes how we experience the world; all achieved with far fewer resources than today.

As the doors open once again for Autodesk University held in Nashville, here is a summary of the announcements from Autodesk:

AECO: Autodesk Forma becomes first end-to-end industry cloud

  • Forma connects design, construction, and operations in one cloud environment.
  • The team supporting Denver International Airport used Forma. By leveraging this end-to-end workflow, over 400 contractors and subcontractors collaborate in one central experience from design through to construction – helpings teams track new developments and improvements in a visual and interactive way.

Design and Manufacturing: Autodesk Fusion leads innovation

  • Design and manufacturing is changing, with integrated PLM teams can now work in a continuous data thread from kick off to manufacturing. AI powered tools like Autodesk Assistant, conceptual design in Fusion, AutoContrain are transforming how teams onboard, design and engineer.
  • SwissDrones used Fusion to accelerate development of their twin-rotor UAV’s – working like a major aerospace company, but at a startup speed. Cloud-based collaboration helped them move faster, reduce waste and adapt to changing missions without sacrificing quality or compliance.

Media and Entertainment: Unlocking human creativity with AI

  • Autodesk flow studio empowers artists to animate, light and composite faster than ever. While Autodesk Assistant in Maya enables intuitive scene manipulation, Motion Maker in Maya and Face Animator dramatically reduce the time it takes to bring characters to life.
  • Studios like Industrial Light & Magic, Boxel, Rising Sun Pictures are using these tools to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.

Scaling AI across industries

  • Autodesk have spent over a decade building the infrastructure to scale AI. From Autodesk Assistant in design and make, to Model Context Protocol servers, Autodesk are focusing on delivering tools that understand geometry, behaviour and context.

Here is more of the detail contained within each announcement:

  1. Rewriting the rules of creation: Autodesk’s AI mission for the future of Media & Entertainment

The media and entertainment industry is under constant pressure to produce more at lower costs. Autodesk’s AI strategy for Media & Entertainment is straightforward—build practical solutions to suit independent creators and major studios.

Announcements include:

  • Upcoming Autodesk AI Assistant will automate traditionally manual tasks—such as adjusting scene lighting to match the time of day—enabling creators to iterate faster and direct scenes intuitively during postproduction.
  • FaceAnimator, an upcoming AI-powered tool, uses previously animated sequences of a project to generate facial and lip-sync animation from an audio file.
  • MotionMaker blends keyframing, motion capture, and machine learning to quickly generate motion you can use as a strong starting point.
  • Autodesk Flow Studio, now available in a free tier, uses AI to automate complex VFX tasks like motion capture, camera tracking, and character animation, so more creators can bring their stories to life.

  1. Upcoming 3D generative AI foundation models for Autodesk Fusion and Forma

Autodesk is pioneering neural CAD foundation models—generative AI systems trained to directly reason about CAD objects, architectural systems, and industrial processes—offering a leap beyond traditional parametric CAD engines.

These models enable spontaneous creation from text prompts, seamless transitions from concept to detail, and the ability to customise with proprietary data. With integration into tools like Autodesk Forma and Fusion, neural CAD promises to make design more intuitive, collaborative, and transformative, ushering in a new era of creativity and productivity.

  1. Three ways Forma is shaping the future of AECO

Autodesk Forma is fixing a gap in the industry. It isn’t just a collection of tools, it’s the industry’s first truly unified environment for planning, designing, building and operating. We’re moving closer to full industry cloud, by bringing Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) into Forma enabling the industry to move from files to granular data, breaking down silos to enable collaboration.

New Forma Building Design empowers everyone from project leaders to CAD and BIM architects to create detailed building models with speed and precision. With Forma Connected Clients, customers can utilise shared, granular data and Forma's cloud capabilities directly within the desktop tools they already use.
