Te Āhuru Mōwai Completes First Seven Homes In Planned 125 Home Building Programme
Te Āhuru Mōwai has announced the completion of seven new quality social homes for whanau in Titahi Bay. The development was blessed and opened by Ngāti Toa Rangatira and will receive the first of its seven families later this week.
Te Āhuru Mōwai is owned by Ngāti Toa Rangatira and is the country’s largest Māori owned Community Housing Provider with almost 1000 homes in the wider Porirua region. The organisation is also one of just five CHP’s selected by the New Zealand Government as a Strategic Partner, which has enabled the latest build.
The homes were blessed this morning by leaders from Ngāti Toa Rangatira and the local community, acknowledging the whenua, the kaupapa and the whānau who will soon move in.
“Any day when we can house whānau in our Porirua community is a good day “said Te Āhuru Mōwai CEO James Te Puni.” We acknowledge all the talented Ngāti toa trades and other local trades who worked with Duncan Construction to craft these beautiful homes. And we thank our lending partners CHFA who along with Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development have supported this programme to build beautiful homes for our community”
The development includes a mix of two-and three-bedroom homes and a five-bedroom designed to meet the needs of a wide range of whānau. Built to modern standards of warmth, comfort and energy efficiency, these homes will help improve health and wellbeing outcomes for whānau.
This development marks the beginning of a 2-year programme supported by Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to deliver a total of 125 homes by mid-2027.
