Illuminate Market 2026: A True Celebration Of Possibility
17 March 2026 – Recreate NZ is excited to welcome the Auckland community to the annual Illuminate Market celebrating the entrepreneurial talents of young people with disabilities.
Taking place on Saturday 28th March at Mt Albert War Memorial Hall and Reserve in central Auckland, visitors will experience a lively line-up including market stalls, food trucks, free live entertainment, creative workshops and fun activities for all ages. Most event participants are from the disability community showcasing original products, crafts and performing arts.
World-ranked T54 wheelchair racer and disability advocate Jaden Movold will kick off Illuminate Market 2026 as the event’s special guest speaker and MC.
“My advocacy has always been about expanding what people believe is possible for disabled people,” says Jaden. “Illuminate Market contributes to that by modelling what inclusive community can look like in practice.”
With the recent launch of the One in Six website by the NZ Disability Employers’ Network which helps employers understand what disability employment looks like and how to get started – the move towards inclusive employment in Aotearoa is growing.
Illuminate Market was established by Recreate NZ in 2019, as part of Moxie – a purposeful work experience and training programme to develop pathways towards meaningful employment for people with disabilities.
“With every Illuminate Market, we’re building a community that recognises the strength of diverse, creative minds,” says Sarah Ferens, Head of Moxie. “Illuminate is about challenging limiting perceptions and supporting financial independence for people with disabilities through entrepreneurship and inclusive employment.
“We’re incredibly proud of how the Illuminate kaupapa continues to grow and can’t wait to welcome the Auckland community to this powerful event!”
