A Great Win For A Fair Society!
The 60-59 vote (with 1 abstention) for the Third Reading of the Prostitution Reform Bill finishes unfinished business.
It creates world-leading law for New Zealand – a model of sensible, workable harm minimisation.
It recognises the need to evaluate the impact of new law through a Review Committee.
It is the product of years of dedicated community and political effort.
It threatens no one except genuine criminals – clients of under 18 year olds, coercing brothel operations, those who ignore the message of safer sex.
In five years time, when the Review Committee reports, we will wonder what all the fuss was about.
