Queen's Counsel appointments deferred
Attorney-General Margaret Wilson today said the appointment round for Queen’s Counsel for 2005 will be deferred until next year, pending the passage of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Bill.
The Lawyers and Conveyancers Bill is due to be considered by the House early this year. It will repeal the Law Practitioners Act 1982 and replace the title of Queen's Counsel with Senior Counsel.
Once the Bill is enacted, work will have to be completed on new processes for the appointment of Senior Counsel. This is expected to happen this year, in time for the next round of appointments.
