Prendergast needs to move on
United Future leader Peter Dunne says it is time for Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast to move on over Transmission Gully.
"Wellington people have made it abundantly clear they want Transmission Gully, not the daft Coastal Highway scheme Mayor Prendergast and her backers supported," the Ohariu-Belmont MP says.
"That debate is over – the issue now is about making Transmission Gully happen and the Mayor should be devoting her attention to that, not wanting to keep on fighting past lost battles," he says
Mr Dunne says Wellington people are becoming increasingly frustrated at the "petty bickering" local councils seem to get into on local economic and transport issues.
"Improving Wellington city's northern access and egress is a vital key to the future economic performance and prosperity of the whole region, and the Transmission Gully highway is a vital link in that chain.
"The Mayor should be focusing her efforts on that bigger picture, rather than continuing to treat the region's support for Transmission Gully as a personal affront," he says.
