Dunne praises Canterbury DHB
United Future leader Peter Dunne today lauded the Canterbury District Health Board for its 'very sensible' decision to use extra capacity in the private hospital sector to perform many of the 975 extra operations planned for the next four months.
"This is the sort of commonsense United Future has been crying out for for years and is a vindication of our decision to include reference to greater use of private hospitals in our confidence and supply agreement with Labour.
"We have never seen the sense – because there is none – of having thousands of New Zealanders suffer while private hospital beds and operating theatres remain empty and we're delighted the Canterbury DHB seems to agree.
"We can only hope the rest of the country's DHB's see the light and follow Canterbury's enlightened example," said Mr Dunne.
