Volunteers = great NZers
United Future leader Peter Dunne says today marks the start of Volunteer Awareness Week (June 17-23).
"More than one million New Zealanders are actively involved in regular volunteer work in their communities and we should applaud them all," he says.
"They make an incalculable contribution to the Kiwi way of life and United Future is determined to make that contribution even greater.
"As part of our confidence and supply agreement with Labour, Budget 2007 lifted the cap on tax rebates for charitable donations which should see the flow of cash into charities increase greatly and help them to encourage the spirit of volunteerism that is so much a part of the Kiwi way of life.
"Our work in this field is not over yet.
"We are continuing to investigate the charitable and volunteer sector to see how we can encourage the growth of philanthropy in New Zealand, for the benefit of the entire community," said Mr Dunne.
