Charity Ball Raises More Than $140,000

18th June 2007

Star-Studded Charity Ball Raises More Than $140,000 For Breast Cancer

At the dazzling Fire & Ice Ball on Friday night more than $140,000 was raised at auction. The money will be used to directly finance medical research into finding a cure for breast cancer.

The ball, organised by The Breast Cancer Research Trust, attracted some of New Zealand’s top personalities and entertainment was provided by Viva La Diva, the Candy Lane Dancers and ‘Elvis’ – who jetted in from Las Vegas for the occasion.

The evening’s charity auction was a typically animated part of the night with many guests digging deep into their pockets to bid on sought after items.

A further highlight of the ball was the hotly contested fashion competition for attendees, judged by the Trust’s Patron Trelise Cooper, with help from Janet Muggivan (Revlon) and MCs Petra Bagust and Shane Cortese.

Alison Taylor, Chairperson of The Breast Cancer Research Trust, says the ball funds will boost the $505,000 raised via the 2007 Glassons Breast Cancer Research Trust T-Shirt campaign.

“The combined total will help to fund leading-edge research into breast cancer, and assist us in finding a cure in our lifetime.

“Breast cancer claims the lives of more than 600 New Zealand women every year, and statistics reveal that one in eight New Zealand women develops breast cancer,” says Ms Taylor.

“We consider this unacceptable and are determined to find a cure for breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Research Trust is extremely grateful for the funds raised via the Fire & Ice ball and the Glassons T-Shirt campaign. The money will be used to help make a breast cancer free future a reality.”
