Honest Government
Rodney Hide MP
Friday, September 5 2008
New Zealanders expect honest Government, and should be able to expect nothing less - that means that the Government and its Ministers should be honest and truthful with the public, Parliament and statutory authorities, ACT Leader Rodney Hide said today.
"That also means that MPs, Ministers and political Parties should not be above the law," Mr Hide said.
"It is absurd for Prime Minister Helen Clark to have her Government labelling my demand for honest government, and for the law to apply equally to all, 'obsessive, compulsive and grandstanding behaviour'.
"Such attacks - as well as those on the Serious Fraud Office, the Privileges Committee, and MPs holding her Government to account and trying simply to get to the truth - simply show the Prime Minister to be desperate to cling to power," Mr Hide said.
