More dates announced for Justice Committee End of Life Choice Bill hearings

The Justice Committee is adding further dates for hearings on the End of Life Choice Bill. These additional hearings will continue the process of hearing from every submitter who wanted the opportunity to speak to the committee about the bill. Justice subcommittees have travelled the country, from Whangarei to Invercargill, to hear from the unprecedented number of people and organisations keenly interested in this important and complex matter.

“We received well over 35,000 submissions and we are committed to hearing from the record number of submitters who indicated that they also want to talk to us. We have held thirty hearings so far, and have heard from 63 organisations and 884 individuals. We will be holding further hearings, including dates in Wellington, Auckland, Dunedin, Christchurch and Hamilton”, says Committee Chairperson Raymond Huo.

“We thank all those who have come before the committee so far to tell their stories. It takes courage to share often harrowing experiences, and Justice Committee members, and the many MPs who have joined us for the hearings, appreciate the effort submitters have gone to. We remain committed to the hearings at this halfway point”, says Committee Deputy Chairperson, Hon Maggie Barry.
