Nearly A Billion Dollars Saved
ACT Leader David Seymour welcomes the news of fewer contractors and consultants, saving the taxpayer $915 million.
“There’s a straight line from the Government saving money to households having more,” says ACT Leader David Seymour.
“When the previous Government spent recklessly, letting out another contract to solve every real or imagined problem, we all paid for their excess. Government waste drove inflation, interest rates, and recession.
“As we climb out of that fiscal hole, the opposite is true: careful spending by the Government means less inflation, lower interest rates, and more money for households and businesses. In short, when the Government wastes less, the people eat more.
“Nobody said it would be easy, but the Government is planting the seeds of economic recovery. Lower mortgage rates, lower rents, and lower inflation are all the result of careful economic management.
“The challenge now is to maintain the momentum towards smaller Government, leaving room for a large private economy. The ACT Party’s role in Government is to keep driving the savings, even when it’s not popular. We are proud to play a constructive role in fixing Government waste for the long-term prosperity of all New Zealanders."
