ALRANZ "Horrified" At Canadian Anti-Abortion Violence

"Much to our horror, ALRANZ learnt today that Dr.Gary Romalis, a Vancouver abortion provider, had been stabbed. This may or may not have anything to do with Canada's RU486 clinical trials, which began last week. This was the second anti-abortionist attack on Dr. Romalis, who was subjected to a sniper attack several years ago." ALRANZ Research Officer Craig Young said today.

"ALRANZ condemns this outbreak of anti-abortion violence in the strongest possible terms. We are concerned that New Zealand anti-abortionists might try to do something similar here. One thinks of Graeme White, recently convicted and sentenced for burglary and breaking in to Lyndhurst Hospital in Christchurch. We are thankful that responsible New Zealand anti-abortionists, like "Humanity" editor Carolyn Moynihan, and the student anti-abortion group SOUL, condemn anti-abortion violence."

"We would ask the government to consider whether this incident warrants the inclusion of strengthened provisions against attacks on medical property,personnel or patients within the forthcoming abortion law review."
