Court fee increase raises Privy Council question
If Government is as concerned about the cost of justice as Courts Minister Matt Robson says, it cannot afford to abolish the free service provided by the Privy Council, the Employers & Manufacturers Association (Northern) says.
"Why on earth does the Government want to abolish the Privy Council when it is provided free of charge to New Zealand taxpayers, but dramatically increase the fees for Court of Appeal proceedings? It makes no sense," said Peter Tritt, EMA's Employer Services Manager.
"Business wants access to the Privy Council retained.
"EMA certainly welcomes the lower charges for access to the Disputes Tribunals; the change represents a useful cost reduction for small and medium enterprises."
