NZ Anti-War Documentary to Screen in Three Centres

NZ Anti-War Documentary to Screen in Three Centres

Community Television Screenings of Plan B: Peace - A documentary about the antiwar movement in Aotearoa and the February 15 protests against the war on Iraq.

A 25 minute documentary about the peace weekend (Feb 15, 16) produced by Aotearoa Indymedia - in collaboration with PlaNET TV will screen on community TV stations in 3 main centres around New Zealand:

* Channel 9 (Dunedin) at 6.30pm on Friday 28 February
* Triangle TV (Auckland UHF41) at 8.30p.m. on Monday 3 March.
* Big TV (Hamilton) at 9.00pm on Thursday 6 March

The documentary is in three parts: The first includes interviews with peace activists about why we should oppose war on Iraq.

The second part covers the 10,000 strong protest march in Auckland on February 15 and includes some footage from other peace events in different parts of the country. This section tries to capture something of the diversity of voices against the war from the many different constituencies represented at the march, including members of the Iraqi community.

The final section focuses on the February 16 peace concert in Auckland and ends with footage of the delivery of a banner several metres long to the home of Helen Clark. The banner was covered with messages to the Prime Minister urging her to take a stand against the war.

The documentary is a collaborative effort - made by twelve people with scant resources, but a desire to see grassroots media grow in this place and around the world. The turnaround was about one and a half to two weeks from initiating interviews to locking off the edit. And, with the exception of bridging finance for the edit process, there was little extraneous institutional or financial support.

Indymedia would like to raise enough money to purchase an editing system for community media/community group use. If anybody has ideas of how we could achieve this sooner, rather than later, contact details are below.
