Preschools STILL Face Mass Closures Mr Mallard
"Trevor Mallard has stopped the closure of state primary schools in panic at Labour's poll ratings - how about he new stops the mass closure of preschools next year by abandoning his forced-retraining regime for early childhood teachers?" So asks Peter Cresswell, Libertarianz spokesman to deregulate early childhood education.
"Be assured," warns Cresswell, "there will be a mass closure next year because of the force-retraining regime presently imposed on preschool teachers. The Minister may cite flawed 'ministry statistics' all he likes - the Early Childhood Council has shown these to be laughable. The fact is that there are enough pre-school teachers simply and quietly planning a change of careers next year to make mass closure a reality. And the Minister knows it!"
As Anna Gavey of Coromandel Rudolph Steiner school said in the 'Sunday Star Times' earlier this month, good teachers are angry at being shut out of their chosen profession - 'cast aside because of the government's inability to be flexible.' Gavey says she feels 'run over with a tank.' So too do many other preschool teachers and parents looking forward with dread to the closure of their own preschool next year. "I call on Minister Mallard to complete a good week's work and to end the misery of Gavey and of so many other preschool teachers," says Cresswell: "End the forced retraining regime today, Mr Mallard!"
