70,000 Boatie Rubbish Bags To Clean Up New Zealand

Friday 17th September 2004. The New Zealand Plastics Industry will distribute 70,000 Boatie Rubbish Bags today in support of Clean Up New Zealand Week.

Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Commodore David Charlesworth was the first to receive the bags this year and was quick to acknowledge how important they are to reinforce the message for all skippers that being responsible at sea this summer is not just about safety, responsible skippers need to bring back all their rubbish.

The Boatie Bags are made from plastic recycled from post industrial waste and are strong enough to be reused. “Clean Up New Zealand Week is supported by thousands of people throughout New Zealand, and we all know that marine litter can have a huge impact, so this is a really positive way for the New Zealand plastics industry to help.” says Carolyn Cox the Environmental Affairs Manager, for Plastics New Zealand. The bags are distributed annually by New Zealand ’s plastics trade organisation Plastics New Zealand and have been generously supplied by Chequer Packaging Ltd.
