Ian Donald to campaign for Progressive party votes in Piako

The Progressive Party has selected Ian Donald as its candidate in the Piako electorate where he will be campaigning for party votes in this year's general election.

"I am very proud to announce that Ian will be flying Progressive's colours in Piako this election. I am very confident he will raise the party vote tally for Progressive in the electorate," says Progressive deputy leader, Hon. Matt Robson MP.

"Progressive candidates are campaigning for peoples' party vote this year as your pro-economic development and anti-drugs insurance policy.

"If you support increased investment in higher education, favour the economic development of our regions and want politicians to take the tough decisions on youth binge drinking and other youth drug problems, then our candidates' message is: Party Vote Progressive".

Married with three adult children, Ian lives in Cambridge. Among his interests are sport, protecting the natural environment and his family.

Ian's varied working life has taken him all around New Zealand and the Pacific Island states, including a number of United Nations assignments that took him as far a field as China. Ian was Inspector of Dangerous Goods in the Cook Islands, he was a Hazardous Substance Consultant after Cyclone Sally (1986), held the position of Investigating Government Inspector in charge of the ICI fire report and controller of the cleanup operation and was a United Nations Adviser to Pacific Island governments on the establishment of hazardous goods safety systems and training of local Pacific Island government inspectors.

The Progressive Party is a partner in the coalition government first elected in 1999. Its leader, Jim Anderton, is the third ranked Cabinet Minister with responsibility for Economic, Industry and Regional Development and the government's campaign to reduce the harm caused by drugs.
