Christchurch Council Stand Against Prostitution Good For Families
Destiny New Zealand has praised the Christchurch City Council for its appeal against a High Court decision allowing small owner-operated brothels to operate in suburban areas.
Christchurch Central candidate, Anita Breach says it is wrong that MPs have sanctioned the operation of brothels “just over the fence from where our children live and play.”
While councils have the power to regulate brothels, the High Court decision effectively ruled that the Christchurch City Council’s bylaw limiting brothels to an inner city area had gone too far.
“It’s the actions of our current Government that have gone too far,” says Mrs Breach. “This government has shown its colours very clearly in passing the Prostitution Reform Act. In fact, our Prime Minister has made it very plain that she is not interested in taking steps to protect our children from this situation.”
Destiny New Zealand opposes any legislation that could harm families and will seek the immediate repeal of the Prostitution Reform Act.
