ARC councillor opposes Transit's 'mad scientist' toll plans
"I'm appalled at Transit's plans to toll roads across the whole Auckland region," said Robyn Hughes, an Auckland Regional councillor on the State Highway 20 consultative group.
Robyn Hughes was elected to the ARC on the RAM (Residents Action Movement) ticket.
"Transit's tolls would alienate roads from the public domain. It would put our roads under corporate control to make money for more road building, which would only encourage more cars onto the region's roads and worsen gridlock. Their plans are bad for the vast majority of people and our environment."
"I will do everything in my power to stop Transit's mad scientist toll plans," said Robyn Hughes. "So will the organisation I belong to - the Residents Action Movement. RAM is campaigning hard for a big shift in state money from roads to public transport, especially thousands of free and frequent buses right across the region. That's the way to end car chaos."
